Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge
Presenting some of nature's most amazing creatures in their natural habitats is the overriding goal of the Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge. This incredible outdoor area has the impressive distinction of hosting more mammals than any other local preserve. It is home to many animals that include black bears as well as the endangered Dismal Swamp shrew. This preserve sprawls out over an incredible 112,000 acres that also includes Lake Drummond.

Norfolk Botanical Garden
Breathe in the beauty of the Norfolk Botanical Garden. Nature lovers will find much to get excited about when they visit what is considered to be the east coast's premier collection of azaleas, roses, camellias, and rhododendrons that stretch out over 155 acres. This garden has welcomed nature fans and outdoor lovers for more than 60 years and additionally offers scenic woodlands, themed gardens, fountains and much more. Tram and boat tours are available as well, weather permitting.

Virginia Zoo in Norfolk
